3-Year-Old Boy Critically Injured in Philadelphia Shooting
A three-year-old boy is currently fighting for his life after being shot in the head at a Philadelphia Housing Authority apartment in the Grays Ferry neighborhood late Wednesday night.
Details of the Incident
Philadelphia Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 2600 block of South 26th Street around 11 p.m. Investigators discovered that the young boy had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Transport to Hospital & Initial Findings
According to police, the child was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia by family members. During the initial investigation, officers recovered a magazine but did not locate a firearm at the scene.
Investigation and Questioning
Five individuals were present inside the apartment when the shooting occurred. Three of those individuals were taken into custody for questioning due to providing inconsistent accounts and a lack of cooperation with investigators.
Police Statement
“At this time, we’re not certain how this 3-year-old was shot in the head, we’re just hoping the best for this child,” Chief Inspector Scott Small stated to reporters at the scene.
Current Status
As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
