Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refrained from committing to whether Democrats would initiate impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump should the party regain control in the upcoming November elections. This stance was revealed during an interview on Tuesday with MS NOW's Ali Vitali.

Focus on Immediate Priorities Over Impeachment Threats

Vitali pressed Pelosi regarding the possibility of impeaching the president in a potential second term, citing voter concerns about alleged "corruption." Pelosi redirected the focus away from impeachment as an initial step upon regaining power.

"Well, I think that, I'm not, that's just not where we're starting with this," Pelosi stated. She outlined the party's immediate agenda upon securing power.

Pelosi's Stated Democratic Agenda

The former Speaker listed several key policy objectives the Democrats aim to pursue. These include lowering the cost of living for Americans.

Furthermore, she emphasized fixing the healthcare system, specifically mentioning concerns over trillions allocated to Medicaid and half a trillion for Medicare, alongside SNAP funding. Pelosi expressed her belief that "food is medicine," especially for children, and stressed the need to "fight their corruption."

Reviewing Potential Impeachable Acts

When Vitali pressed again about impeachable acts by Trump, referencing voter corruption concerns, Pelosi acknowledged the current situation involving a "convicted felon who's president of the United States." She suggested this development is "subject to review."

However, she reiterated that reviewing impeachment grounds is not the starting point for a new Congress. "That's up to a new Congress to come to that decision," Pelosi asserted. She noted that the public is primarily focused on what the party will do for them.

Pelosi clarified that pursuing such actions requires political power and the necessary groundwork to build a case. "It's not just about, 'I feel like doing this,'" she concluded on the matter.

Past Impeachment Stance and Future Plans

The former House Speaker confirmed she has no regrets regarding the impeachment of Trump during his first term. This contrasts with a previous statement made in December to USA Today's Susan Page.

In that December interview, Pelosi indicated there was insufficient cause to impeach Trump at that time, though she maintained that Trump left Congress no choice during his first term. She clarified her conditions for future impeachment consideration.

When asked if impeachment should be part of the party's agenda, Pelosi responded, "If he crosses the border again." She immediately qualified this by stating, "No, there has to be cause. There has to be reason. We had review. This was a very serious, historic thing."

It was previously announced that Pelosi will not seek re-election, with her term concluding in January 2027.
