McAfee announced the plan Friday on The Pat McAfee Show. The ESPN personality said the NFL Field Pass will also cover select Monday Night Football games, starting with the Washington Commanders visiting the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 19. The Super Bowl LXI alternate presentation will stream on Disney+ alongside ESPN and ABC's traditional telecasts. ESPN announced the McAfee-led show as an addition to its main coverage.McAfee Leads New NFL Field PassThe move puts one of ESPN's most prominent personalities at the center of the NFL's championship. McAfee said there was a pipe dream that college Field Pass success and ESPN's NFL relationship could lead to NFL Field Pass broadcasts. Analyst and former quarterback Dan Orlovsky will join McAfee and his crew for the NFL broadcasts. Former linebacker A.J.Hawk will continue participating in the college football version. McAfee had previously been joined by Hawk, Darius Butler and various guests during college football broadcasts. The Field Pass format features McAfee and other commentators stationed near the field, providing live reactions, analysis and commentary throughout games. Unlike a standard TV broadcast, the presentation places its commentators alongside the action instead of in a broadcast booth.The alternate broadcast made its debut during the 2024-25 College Football Playoff semifinals. Its broadcast of the Rose Bowl between Indiana and Alabama earlier this year averaged 2.4 million viewers. McAfee said he expects the Super Bowl broadcast to be similar to his Field Pass telecasts. He did so for the college football national championship earlier this year and is expected to do so again this coming January.ESPN Produces First NFL ChampionshipHe will have similar broadcasts for select Monday Night Football games this season as well. Super Bowl LXI will mark the first time ESPN will produce the NFL championship game since becoming a rights partner with the league. The traditional broadcast will air on ESPN and ABC, with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman expected to call the action. They last called the game in 2020, when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers for Fox.Their return gives ESPN a veteran pairing for its main presentation.
