Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially signed a bill on Monday that mandates the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). The facility will now be known as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Official Approval and Implementation Timeline

The rebranding effort is scheduled to officially take effect in July. This change applies to the airport facility located in West Palm Beach, situated near the Mar-a-Lago estate owned by the former president.

Legislative Support for the Renaming

The bill received strong backing from the Florida Legislature. The Florida House approved the measure with a vote of 81-30, strictly along party lines. Similarly, the Senate passed the bill with a 25-11 vote, also adhering to party lines.

The final implementation is contingent upon two key steps. These include approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the signing of an agreement between Palm Beach County and the trademark holder. This agreement must authorize the commercial use of the name Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Family Reaction and Local Precedent

Eric Trump, son of the former president, publicly acknowledged the signing. He expressed his gratitude on X, formerly known as Twitter, thanking Governor DeSantis and Attorney General James Uthmeier.

Trump also extended thanks to the bill's sponsor, Representative Meg Weinberger, R-Palm Beach Gardens, and the “overwhelming majority in the Florida House!” This renaming follows a recent local designation in Palm Beach.

Previous Naming Honor

A section of road leading from the airport directly to the Mar-a-Lago property was recently renamed Donald J. Trump Boulevard.
