Golf influencer Paige Spiranac has shared words of support for Tiger Woods after he announced he would be stepping away from golf to “seek treatment” following his DUI arrest in Jupiter Island, Florida on Friday.
Woods Announces Treatment
Spiranac reacted to Woods’ statement and the unfolding situation after his single-vehicle rollover crash on social media. “I think we are all rooting for Tiger,” she posted on X. “Not as a golfer but more importantly as a person. None of us can fathom what he’s been through both emotionally and physically.”
Spiranac continued, “Not excusing any behavior, but I hope he’s able to get the help he needs in peace without the whole world dog piling on him in a very difficult situation.”
Legal Proceedings and Statement
Woods entered a not guilty plea in court on Tuesday, waiving his right to an arraignment and requesting a jury trial. He subsequently released a statement detailing his decision to prioritize his health.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods stated. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
Woods added, “I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”
Details of the Arrest
According to court documents, Woods was arrested in Florida after a rollover crash, and prescription opioids were found in his possession. He faced charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusing to submit to a blood alcohol test.
Observations by Law Enforcement
Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported observing several signs of impairment following the crash. They noted Woods was “sweating profusely,” his movements were “lethargic and slow,” and his eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” and “extremely dilated.”
Woods reportedly admitted to being distracted before the crash, stating he was “looking down at his cell phone and changing the radio station and did not notice the vehicle in front of him slowing down.”
Authorities discovered two white pills, later identified as hydrocodone, a prescription pain relief opioid, in Woods’ pocket after his arrest.
Previous Incidents and Future Plans
This marks Woods’ second DUI arrest in the last decade; he was previously arrested on Jupiter Island in 2017 after being found asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle. He was also involved in a serious rollover crash in 2021 that resulted in significant leg injuries.
Woods recently returned to competition earlier this month, but his statement confirmed he will not be participating in this year’s Masters Tournament. He had also signed up for the U.S. Senior Open, scheduled for early July. Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley confirmed Woods’ absence from The Masters.
