A 7-month-old baby girl, Kaori, was fatally shot in Brooklyn, New York, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, while in her stroller with her parents. The tragic incident occurred near the corner of Humboldt and Moore Streets around 1:20 p.m.
Heartbreaking Discovery
Security footage obtained by The Post from an East Williamsburg bodega captured the agonizing moment Lianna Charles-Moore, the baby’s mother, discovered her daughter had been struck by a bullet. Charles-Moore and the baby’s father had taken cover inside the deli with Kaori and her 2-year-old brother after hearing loud blasts.
Initial Confusion and Realization
The family initially believed the sounds were fireworks, but they were, in fact, gunshots fired by two individuals on a moped into a crowd. Inside the bodega, Charles-Moore checked on her son before looking at Kaori. She then pulled back the stroller’s visor and saw her daughter had suffered a fatal head wound.
Mother's Agony
The footage shows Charles-Moore jumping up and down and screaming in distress, overwhelmed with emotion. “I was hugging, and then when I looked to my left, my daughter was just there, lying there. She was shot in the head. She was just bleeding. It was just too much,” Charles-Moore said in a phone interview.
Witness Reactions
Charles-Moore’s breakdown alerted bystanders who were unaware of the tragedy. A child standing nearby looked into the stroller and stepped back in shock. A man rushed over, appearing stunned, and covered his mouth before moving the stroller outside.
Investigation and Aftermath
The 7-month-old was rushed to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:46 p.m. Her 2-year-old brother sustained a graze wound and was treated at the same hospital. Police are searching for the two suspects who were riding the moped.
Suspects Apprehended
Surveillance photos show one of the suspects firing a gun from the back of the moped as the driver sped away. The duo crashed into a car two blocks away, and the passenger was taken into custody in connection with an unrelated domestic incident. He is considered a person of interest in the shooting.
