Nova Scotia Rescue Saves 68 Dogs and Cats from Georgia High-Kill Shelters Fly With Me Animal Rescue brought 28 dogs and more than 40 cats from overcrowded Georgia shelters to Nova Scotia. Most cats have been adopted, while six dogs have found homes and applications are being processed. A Nova Scotia animal rescue has saved 68 animals from overcrowded high-kill shelters in the southern United States. Fly With Me Animal Rescue rescued 28 dogs and more than 40 cats on a trip to Georgia this month. The organization said the effort is part of a broader plan to save animals from overcrowded shelters that resort to euthanasia and give them a second chance. The rescue appeared on CTV Your Morning Atlantic on Oct. 23, 2026. We are a really small team of people and we try to do rescues at least four times a year, said Daniela Arreola Gala, rescue operations co-ordinator for Fly With Me.Partnerships With Shelters In The US And MexicoThe group works with shelter partners mostly in the United States and some in Mexico. They call us for help and we go down there, we have been going to south of Georgia a lot lately cause they have just such a bad over-crowding shelter problem, Arreola Gala told CTV Your Morning Atlantic's Crystal Garrett. She said all the cats from the trip except two have found their forever homes. For the dogs only six have been adopted, but we received a lot of good applications, so we have just been working through them, Arreola Gala said. Arreola Gala herself has been fostering a small dog named Fig, who appeared with her at the CTV Your Morning Atlantic studio. Fig was found as a stray on the streets of Georgia and has a lot of separation anxiety. He likes to be close to his people and I think he still has the fear of being abandoned again, she said. She envisions a calm, patient future home for Fig, likely with someone who works from home or will not leave him for long periods of time. A medium-sized dog named Paquito is also searching for a forever home. Arreola Gala brought him from Mexico City.Paquito Shy But Loyal After Shelter StayHe was with an independent shelter after being found as a puppy on the streets with his siblings, and he was at that shelter for over a year. All of his siblings got adopted and he did not, she said. She describes Paquito as a little shy at first but very loyal. Once he trusts you, he will be inseparable from you, she said.More information about the organization and animals looking for homes is available at the Fly With Me website. The rescue group appeared on CTV to chat about what they do and introduce two dogs looking for forever homes.
