Chris Streveler Hangs Up His Cleats at 31

NFL quarterback Chris Streveler has announced his retirement from professional football. The announcement came on Monday when the 31-year-old shared a video message on his Instagram account.

Streveler's career included playing time for both the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Jets during his tenure in the league. He reflected on his journey in the announcement, stating, "I love football, but today is my last day as a football player."

Reflecting on a Football Journey

The quarterback shared heartfelt sentiments about the impact the sport has had on his life. He noted that the game provided him with opportunities beyond his expectations and presented challenges he never thought he could overcome.

"This game has forged lifelong bonds with people I would have never met otherwise," Streveler added. He mentioned that he began playing the game at the age of 8 and is now retiring at 31.

NFL Career Highlights and Teams

Before entering the NFL, Streveler played college football at both the University of Minnesota and the University of South Dakota. He secured his first opportunity in the NFL when he joined the Arizona Cardinals during the 2020 season.

Time with the Cardinals and Jets

While with the Cardinals, Streveler never earned a starting role. Across seven appearances, he completed 17 of 25 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown.

In 2022, Streveler joined the Miami Dolphins but was subsequently waived and never played a game for the team. He then signed with the New York Jets later that same year.

Streveler was one of four quarterbacks for the Jets who received starting opportunities during the 2022 season. He made his first career start in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he went 10-of-15 for 90 yards in a 23-6 loss.

The Jets waived Streveler before the start of the 2023 season.

Success in the CFL

Following his time in the NFL, the journeyman quarterback spent two seasons playing in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, primarily serving in a backup capacity.

During his time with the Blue Bombers, Streveler was part of the team that secured a Grey Cup victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
