DC Unveils Action-Packed Trailer for Upcoming Supergirl Film

DC Studios has released a new, full-length trailer for the highly anticipated Supergirl film, showcasing Kara Zor-El's intense journey. The footage highlights explosive action sequences, the introduction of a wisecracking Lobo, and significant peril for Krypto the Superdog.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin and the last survivor of Krypton. The ensemble cast also features Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and David Corenswet reprising his role as Clark Kent/Superman.

Kara's Emotional Struggle and Krypto in Danger

The trailer opens with a poignant video call between Kara and Clark. Clark expresses concern over his cousin's search for belonging, to which Kara replies starkly, “That’s the thing, Clark. I have no people.” The film emphasizes Kara's deep connection with Krypto, her only link to her destroyed homeworld.

Footage also shows Zor-El preparing Kara for escape, underscoring the theme of finding a new home. Kara tells Krypto, “Home is wherever you are, buddy,” suggesting their bond is paramount.

The Villain's Attack and the Race for Survival

The narrative takes a dark turn when Krem of the Yellow Hills attacks, shooting and poisoning Krypto. This event forces Kara into a desperate race against time to save her companion.

Kara joins forces with Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks vengeance against Krem for the murder of her parents. Their quest leads them to an unexpected alliance with the intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo.

Lobo Joins the Fray

Jason Momoa appears as the fan-favorite character Lobo, bringing his signature chaotic energy to the proceedings. The antihero is shown delivering one-liners and enthusiastically joining the fight, laughing and hollering.

Momoa has previously expressed his enthusiasm for the character, which seems evident in his over-the-top portrayal seen in the trailer. Lobo’s presence adds a dynamic, unpredictable element to Kara’s mission.

Themes of Belonging and Adaptation

Throughout the trailer, Krem remains a menacing threat, while Kara’s emotional journey is central. The potential loss of Krypto symbolizes her deep-seated difficulty in forming lasting connections following Krypton's demise.

The trailer concludes by repeating Kara’s earlier line, “Home is wherever you are, buddy,” reinforcing the film's emotional core. Supergirl, scripted by Ana Nogueira, adapts the storyline from Tom King and Bilquis Evely's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic.

This adventure contrasts with Superman's recent story of self-acceptance. While Clark learned to define himself outside his heritage, Kara's journey is summarized by the trailer's tagline: “Find your place in the universe.”
