Netanyahu Links Iran Conflict to Exodus Story
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu framed Israel’s ongoing campaign against Iran and its regional proxies through the narrative of the biblical Exodus on Wednesday, April 1st. He delivered the address on the eve of Passover, a significant Jewish holiday commemorating the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt.
Echoes of the Ten Plagues
Netanyahu asserted that Israel has inflicted “ten blows” upon its enemies, mirroring the Ten Plagues described in the Exodus story. He specifically named Hamas, Hezbollah, the former regime of Bashar Assad in Syria, Palestinian terror groups, the Houthis in Yemen, and Iran itself as targets of these actions.
Specific Targets in Iran
The Prime Minister detailed five specific areas targeted within Iran: its nuclear program, missile capabilities, regime infrastructure, repression forces, and senior leadership. He claimed these efforts have cost Iran nearly one trillion dollars, ultimately proving “those trillion dollars have gone to waste.”
Mirroring Achievements to Biblical Narrative
Netanyahu then connected these actions to “ten major achievements,” drawing a direct parallel to the plagues. He cited a strategic reversal against Tehran, strengthened alliances, and the degradation of enemy capabilities as examples of these accomplishments. He also highlighted Israel’s resilience throughout the conflict.
Losses and Condolences
Acknowledging the human cost of the conflict, Netanyahu offered condolences to the families of four Israeli troops who were killed on Tuesday in Lebanon. He also expressed solidarity with those wounded in action.
Call for Unity and Resilience
Netanyahu urged the Israeli media and opposition to avoid “defeatist messaging,” encouraging them to “plug into the spirit of the people, the spirit of bravery and victory of our great fighters.” He emphasized that “Israel is stronger than ever” and that “the entire world hears our lion’s roar,” referencing “Operation Roaring Lion” with the United States.
Alliances and Security Zones
He underscored the unprecedented cooperation between Israel and the United States under President Trump, and the forging of new alliances with countries in the region against the shared Iranian threat. Netanyahu also noted the creation of security zones beyond Israel’s borders in Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria.
Netanyahu recalled that even after the ten plagues, Pharaoh attempted to harm the Hebrews, referencing the drowning of Pharaoh’s army. He stated that Iran and its proxies are similarly attempting to harm Israel despite their losses, but “the fight is not over yet.”
