Abandoned Dogs Discovered in Palmdale Park

On April 1, 2026, authorities responded to reports of multiple loose dogs in a park located in Palmdale, north of Los Angeles. Upon arrival, a supervisor and their team found sixteen small dogs wandering freely.

Severe Neglect Evident

The dogs were found to be in a state of severe neglect. They had severely matted fur covered in dirt and waste, and emitted a strong, unpleasant odor. The Palmdale animal shelter described the situation as a shocking call, stating, “It’s a call we couldn’t believe when it came in over the radio: ‘Multiple loose small dogs appear left abandoned in the park.’”

Animal Shelter Response

The Palmdale Animal Care Center immediately took action to provide care for the animals. Personnel began preparing the dogs for medical attention, including vaccinations and necessary treatments. The shelter is also working to find suitable homes for the dogs before the end of their stray-hold period.

Seeking Information

The abandonment of this many dogs is considered rare. The animal shelter is requesting public assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for leaving the animals in the park. Anyone with information is urged to email palmdale@animalcare.lacounty.gov. “This situation doesn’t happen often,” the shelter stated, “It’s what our team is trained to handle, but we need your help.”

The dogs are believed to be poodle mixes, commonly referred to as ‘Doodles’. Heartbreaking images released by the Animal Care Center show the extent of their condition.
