Fatal Shooting in West Harris County

A woman was shot and killed in front of her two young children after a dispute with another driver in west Harris County, Texas, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Sheriff Gonzalez described the incident as “bizarre and tragic.”

Initial Reports and Scene Response

The Harris County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 6700 block of Rusty Ridge Lane on Wednesday afternoon. Deputies were initially dispatched for a reported “terroristic threat” after a resident discovered a bullet on her vehicle and wished to file a report.

While a deputy was en route, additional calls came in reporting a shooting at the same location. This quickly escalated the situation for responding law enforcement.

Details of the Confrontation

Investigators determined that a man driving a work truck had yielded to allow the woman’s car to pass. The woman then exited her vehicle and allegedly became verbally aggressive, yelling at the truck driver.

Escalation and Shooting

The man told deputies he attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the woman reportedly brandished a pistol. The truck driver then retrieved his own firearm and discharged it multiple times, striking the woman.

The woman died at the scene. Her 8-year-old daughter, 4-year-old son, and a family dog were present in the car during the shooting but were not physically harmed.

Suspect Cooperation and Nearby School

The man who fired the shots remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies following the incident. The shooting occurred approximately two blocks from Duryea Elementary School.
