Money might make the world go round, but it is often treated as a taboo topic. That’s what the creators of downtown Dallas’ MoMoney: Museum of Money hope to change with their new immersive experience, which aims to spark conversations about cash and financial reality. Both have backgrounds in real estate and finance. They also brought the Museum of Illusions to Dallas and other cities in Texas. Co-founders of MoMoney: Museum of Money Subhi Gharbieh and Houss El Marabti demonstrate an interactive exhibit, Hoard of Gold, at their museum, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in Dallas.“We all go to school to get a job, to get money and we know how to spend it,” Marabti said. “But there isn’t a lot of education that comes with knowing how to save it, how to manage it, how to invest it. And it always feels difficult, but it shouldn’t.” MoMoney opened its doors on Feb. 20. It’s a fun, immersive activity and an educational museum. It takes about 90 minutes to go through the whole museum.Subhi Gharbieh, co-founder of MoMoney: Museum of Money, poses for a photo at the cash shower splash interactive exhibit at the museum, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in Dallas. The experience begins the moment you walk in, when guests are asked the question, “What does money mean to you?” Depending on their answer, visitors go through one of three doors labeled power, freedom or opportunity. They will then learn about the history of money, play a bartering game and participate in other fun activities while learning about the forms of currency before paper money existed.“We wanted to make money more approachable and do it in a fun, interactive way that makes people feel like they’re playing a game,” Marabti said. He said he hopes that visitors will leave with a nugget of knowledge “that might make a difference.”Other activities in the museum include deciphering counterfeit money, taking photos in a bathtub full of faux money, getting your financial fortune read by AI “experts” from the ’80s, creating money with your face on it and doing a laser maze vault heist If museum attendees have questions about their finances, they can use one of the iPads to ask a few questions and get a financial plan based on real data. “Dex Diamondhands," an interactive exhibit, is seen at MoMoney: Museum of Money, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in Dallas. At this exhibit, visitors can have their financial fortunes read.“The small gems of knowledge that are hinted throughout the experience ... open your mind to think a little more openly about your finances,” Gharbieh said.
