Mobile Expands Critical Home Repair Assistance
The City of Mobile, under Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis, is significantly expanding its Critical Repair Grant Program for 2026. This expansion will provide crucial financial aid for roof repairs to a greater number of low-to-moderate-income residents.
Program Details and Funding
Administered by the Neighborhood Development Department, the program directly addresses essential home repair needs, with a primary focus on roof replacements this year. A $900,000 investment of discretionary funding, in addition to traditional Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is making this expansion possible.
Increased Impact on Households
This funding increase will more than triple the number of households served, growing from approximately 75 to over 220. Mayor Cheriogotis emphasized that a failing roof can render a home uninhabitable, especially for vulnerable populations.
Mayor Cheriogotis on Neighborhood Stability
Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis highlighted the program’s role in stabilizing neighborhoods, protecting residents, and proactively preventing blight. He stated the city’s commitment to supporting residents and ensuring community safety and well-being.
