Apple TV+'s adaptation of Brandon Sanderson’s epic fantasy series, Mistborn, is making significant progress. Author Brandon Sanderson recently shared a promising update on the project, confirming steady advancements in the scriptwriting phase.
Script Development Reaches Milestone
Sanderson Confirms 50% Completion
Sanderson revealed in a YouTube update that the screenplay is now halfway finished. “The screenplay is at 50%. I’m moving right along on that,” he stated. He also expressed optimism following initial discussions with the studio.
Positive Studio Feedback
While studio executives haven’t reviewed the complete draft yet, Sanderson has received “good feedback” regarding their expectations for the adaptation. This early response has bolstered his confidence in the project’s direction. “I’m feeling really good about how this is going,” he added.
About the Mistborn Series
Mistborn is based on Sanderson’s popular fantasy saga, beginning with The Final Empire. The story centers on a group of thieves who utilize a unique magic system called Allomancy to challenge a millennia-old empire.
A Long-Awaited Adaptation
The adaptation has faced numerous hurdles over the years, with previous attempts at development failing to materialize. Development was even paused in 2023. Now, with Sanderson directly involved, the project appears to be gaining momentum.
Sanderson's Expanding Universe
Sanderson’s broader literary universe, known as the Cosmere, encompasses several of his works, including The Stormlight Archive and Elantris. The Stormlight Archive is also currently being developed as a potential TV series.
Previous Adaptation Experience
Sanderson is not new to adaptations, having previously served as a consulting producer on The Wheel of Time. He is now taking a more active role in shaping the film adaptation of his own creation.
Despite still being in the early stages, this update signals genuine progress. For fans of the series, it’s a hopeful indication that the ambitious fantasy film is moving closer to becoming a reality.
