Double Homicide in Jackson, Mississippi
Two missing 16-year-olds were found shot dead in Jackson, Mississippi, on Monday, March 30th, according to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office. The bodies were discovered by a crew of sanitation workers along Springdale Road.
Victims Identified
The victims have been identified as Terry Burrell, Jr. and Khloe Hudson. Both teens attended Lanier Junior Senior High School in Jackson, as reported by local news station WLBT.
Details of the Discovery
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones confirmed that both teenagers had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. “They both have been shot multiple times,” Sheriff Jones stated in a video shared by the Jackson Police Department on Facebook.
Investigation Status
As of March 30th, authorities have not established a motive for the shooting or identified any suspects. “We don’t have a motive at this particular time, nor do we have any suspect information,” Jones explained. Investigators believe the teens were brought to the location by a suspect.
School Response
Jackson Public Schools released a statement mourning the loss of the two students. The district is providing counseling services to students at Lanier Junior Senior High School following the tragic deaths.
Sheriff's Plea for Information
Sheriff Jones emphasized the need for public assistance in the investigation, stating, “We need to know why this happened, and we need to know who is responsible for this incident.” He added that the incident did not appear to be random. He also stated, “No information is too small to report right now.”
Transition in Leadership
The announcement of the details regarding the deaths came before Sheriff Jones’ last day as chief of the Jackson Police Department on March 31st. Dr. Rashell Brackney has taken over the police chief position, as announced by Jones on Facebook. He remains the Sheriff of Hinds County.
