Missing Teen Found After 32 Years
Christina Marie Plante, who vanished from a small mountain community in Arizona in 1994 at the age of 13, has been found alive after 32 years. Plante, now 44, was last seen on May 15, 1994, leaving her home in Payson, northeast of Phoenix, to walk to a nearby stable.
Initial Disappearance and Cold Case Investigation
Authorities initially classified Plante’s disappearance as occurring under “endangered and suspicious circumstances.” Despite an extensive search and numerous interviews, the case went cold, though it remained open. The case was eventually assigned to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office’s Cold Case Unit.
Advances in Technology Lead to Resolution
Investigators utilized advances in technology and updated investigative techniques to develop new leads and ultimately solve the case. Plante was also entered into national missing children databases during the intervening decades. “Investigators have confirmed her identity, and her status as a missing person has been officially resolved,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Privacy Concerns
Out of respect for Plante’s privacy, authorities have stated that no further details regarding the case will be released. The sheriff’s office credited cold case review initiatives for “bringing long-awaited answers to families and communities.”
