Milly Alcock is preparing to take on the role of Supergirl, one of DC’s most recognizable heroes, and has discussed her unique approach to embodying the character.

Independent Approach to Supergirl

Alcock revealed she did not reach out to previous Supergirl actors, such as Sasha Calle and Melissa Benoist, for guidance during her preparation. She emphasized the importance of staying grounded and developing her own interpretation of the role.

“They’re just people living their lives,” Alcock stated. “It’s not like we have this blood bond.” This mindset reflects her desire to build her performance independently and trust her own instincts.

Professional Boundaries and Respect

This independent approach extends to her interactions with co-stars. While working alongside Julianne Moore on Sirens, Alcock didn’t view the experience as a masterclass.

“You have to respect that they don’t owe you that,” she explained, demonstrating a strong sense of professional boundaries.

Acknowledging the Pressure

Alcock acknowledged the pressure that comes with taking on such a prominent role, particularly with a large fanbase. “Of course I’m scared,” she admitted. “Of course, I want people to like me and the movie. But ultimately, it’s out of my control.”

From 'House of the Dragon' to Leading Lady

Before landing the role of Supergirl, Alcock gained recognition for her performance as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. This breakout role led to further opportunities, including a part in Netflix’s Sirens.

Now, she is leading a major studio film under Warner Bros., representing a significant step forward in her career. Alcock previously faced financial struggles and proactively contacted talent agents, driven by a confidence instilled by her mother: “If those idiots can do it, why can’t you?”

A Personal Journey for Kara Zor-El

Alcock’s portrayal of Kara Zor-El will focus on a more personal and introspective journey. She describes the character as someone grappling with the weight of responsibility and seeking self-discovery, rather than solely focusing on saving the world. This adds a new layer of depth to the superhero narrative.
