Meta has introduced two new models of its AI-powered smart glasses, emphasizing a design that is slimmer and more closely resembles traditional eyewear. These new iterations focus heavily on accommodating users who require prescription lenses.

New Styles Prioritize Vision Correction

The latest smart glasses are designed with prescription wearers in mind, a significant update from previous models. Meta states that both new pairs are capable of supporting nearly all types of prescriptions.

The new frames come with adjustable temple tips and changeable nose pads to ensure a better fit for various users. Styles available include the Blayzer, which features a sleek rectangular frame, and the Scriber, which offers a more rounded silhouette.

Design and Aesthetics

These new Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics frames are notably slimmer when compared to Meta’s existing Ray-Ban smart glasses, such as the Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner models.

Color options encompass matte black, transparent black, and transparent dark olive. Additionally, seasonal colors like transparent “Stone Beige” and transparent “Matte Ice Grey” are being offered. A minor aesthetic change includes the carrying and charging case, which is now dark brown, unlike the light brown used in earlier generations.

Consistent AI Hardware Under the Hood

Despite the physical redesign and enhanced prescription support, the core AI hardware and features remain consistent with Meta’s previous smart glasses offerings.

Key features retained include the 12-megapixel camera, integrated speakers, and built-in Meta AI capabilities powered by computer vision. The battery life is specified to last up to 8 hours.

The enhanced design makes the hardware more poised for potential future feature expansions aimed at users with lower vision, although Meta has not confirmed specific plans for this.

Availability and Pricing Details

Preorders for both the Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics began today directly from Meta.com and authorized Meta retail partners.

The smart glasses will become available in the U.S. and select international markets starting April 14. The starting price point for both new styles is set at $499.
