Meta Expands Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Lineup for Prescription Wearers
Meta has officially announced the expansion of its AI-powered smart glasses, now focusing heavily on users requiring prescription eyewear. This move integrates adjustable hardware with advanced, AI-driven functionalities, such as chat summaries, into everyday wearables.
Two new models, the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics, are being introduced. These glasses are engineered to support almost all prescriptions while enhancing comfort for continuous, long-term wear.
The company also detailed forthcoming updates, including new frame colors and lens options, alongside several new AI features set to deploy soon. Pricing for these new models starts at $499 in the United States.
Pre-orders are currently active online. General availability is scheduled to commence on April 14 across various optical retailers and select international markets.
Designing for Daily Wear and Custom Fit
Meta is actively targeting the significant demographic that relies on corrective lenses daily. While previous iterations supported prescription lenses, these new models feature hardware specifically built around that requirement.
The Blayzer model features a rectangular frame design and will be offered in both Standard and Large sizes. Conversely, the Scriber model presents a more rounded aesthetic, providing an alternative fit option.
“Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Ray-Ban Scriber Optics glasses feature overextension hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and optician-adjustable temple tips, so they’re adaptable to your unique face shape for a tailored fit.”
A major focus for Meta is adjustability to ensure superior comfort across diverse facial structures. Opticians will be able to modify several frame components, which should benefit users who wear glasses for extended periods.
Expanding Style Options Across the Lineup
In addition to the new prescription models, Meta is refreshing its existing Ray-Ban Meta collection with updated colorways and lens combinations. These changes appear designed to keep the product line current with seasonal trends.
- The Skyler frame will now be available in Shiny Transparent Peach paired with Transitions Brown lenses.
- The Headliner frame will feature Matte Transparent Peach with Transitions Grey lenses.
- The classic Wayfarer frame will be offered in Shiny Transparent Grey with Transitions Sapphire lenses.
Updates are also coming to the Oakley Meta glasses. New variants include Vanguard Black with Prizm Black lenses and Vanguard White with Prizm Rose Gold lenses. Further options include transition-enabled lenses and sport-focused configurations for the Vanguard and HSTN styles. These additions broaden user choice and reflect the increasing competition within the smart eyewear sector.
New AI Capabilities for Hands-Free Daily Assistance
Meta is simultaneously rolling out significant software enhancements that leverage both voice commands and camera inputs. These updates aim to make user interactions more seamless and integrated into daily activities without requiring constant manual input.
Nutrition Tracking and Information Recall
A standout new feature is integrated nutrition tracking. Users can easily log meals either by speaking a description or by capturing a quick photograph of their food.
Meta AI will then process the image or audio, extract the necessary nutritional data, and automatically add it to a user’s food log. Over time, the system is designed to generate personalized insights based on observed eating habits.
Furthermore, Meta is releasing WhatsApp summaries and recall features powered by its AI system, enabling users to review important information more efficiently. The company stated that these new glasses are the most comfortable it has ever engineered, specifically built for all-day wear.
Meta is also currently developing a feature termed Neural Handwriting, though specific details regarding its functionality remain limited for now. This latest wave of updates underscores Meta’s commitment to transitioning smart glasses from niche gadgets to practical tools for mainstream, everyday application.
