Tragic Lancaster Fire Claims Three Lives
A devastating fire in Lancaster, Ohio, early Wednesday morning resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including an infant. The blaze occurred in an alley near the intersection of 6th and Madison avenues, prompting a swift response from emergency services and courageous actions from local residents.
Neighbors Undertake Frantic Rescue Efforts
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with neighbors immediately attempting to rescue those trapped inside the burning building. Residents reported hearing explosions as they rushed to help. William Miller, a neighbor, recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “It was just pure adrenaline, terror.”
Desperate Attempts to Save Family Members
Mason Marshall, a resident of the house, reportedly pushed an air conditioning unit out of a second-story window and attempted to lower his daughter to safety. “He was trying to hand his daughter out, dropping her onto us,” Miller explained. Neighbors quickly intervened to catch the child.
Miller and others successfully rescued a woman from a neighboring unit downstairs. He also described assisting in the rescue of the family’s 5-year-old daughter, Rowan, who was understandably terrified and reluctant to let go of the ladder.
Heroic Sacrifice
Tragically, Marshall re-entered the burning house in an attempt to save his 9-month-old infant and his fiancée, Christen Woodman. Both Marshall and Woodman perished in the fire. Miller hailed Marshall as a hero, saying, “He got his daughter out, and he was going back in for the rest… He did what any good dad would do.”
Community Mourns and Memorializes
The Lancaster community is now in mourning. A memorial has been established at the site of the fire to honor the victims. The incident remains under investigation.
