A Kirkland family is gaining attention for using social media to share candid glimpses into their everyday experiences, spreading positivity and connection beyond their local community.
“Blessed Chaos”: A Family’s Philosophy
Marisa Mancke and her husband, David Jones, describe their life as “blessed chaos.” “It’s madness and chaos and crazy and unexpected and hard and tumultuous, but so blessed,” Mancke explained. At the heart of their world is their 10-year-old son, Xavier.
Xavier: More Than a Diagnosis
Xavier has Down syndrome, but his parents emphasize that it’s only one aspect of his vibrant personality. “He’s kind, he’s compassionate, he’s a bit of an old soul, but he’s mischievous like any 10-year-old kid,” Mancke said. She also noted his charismatic and social nature.
Sharing Life Unfiltered
Through Mancke’s Instagram page, “Happy Hour by Marisa,” the family shares an unfiltered look at their lives, including kitchen mishaps and spontaneous public dance parties. “We’re everyday people doing everyday things with a kid who is just extra special in some ways, which provides us with lots of entertainment and lots of blessings,” Mancke stated.
An Impromptu Car Wash Performance
One recent outing at a car wash turned into an impromptu dance performance by Xavier, bringing smiles to the faces of onlookers. “Every single person had a huge smile on their face,” Mancke recalled. “Some people rolled their windows down. Some people were clapping. It was authentic, genuine connection that brought joy to strangers, and I love that.”
“Dance Party Friday” and Spreading Joy
A weekly tradition, “Dance Party Friday,” is a cornerstone of their content. Xavier eagerly anticipates this event each week, waking up on Fridays excited to celebrate. “He wakes up Friday mornings and says, ‘Mom, it’s Dance Party Friday, and this is going to be so fun,’” Mancke shared.
Mancke emphasizes the importance of authenticity in their posts, choosing to capture life as it unfolds without staging or retakes. “The reason I choose to put it out there is to just spread joy,” she said. “We can lift each other up or we can bring each other down. If we use our power and our ability to connect with others to lift more people up, it’s a pretty beautiful thing.”
