Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins has secured a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders that includes a $20 million guarantee in 2026, marking his eleventh consecutive season with a fully guaranteed contract.

Contract Details & Team Flexibility

The deal, which includes a club option, could be worth up to $172 million over five years, bringing Cousins back together with Coach Kubiak in Las Vegas. Cousins’ agent announced the agreement, with the $20 million guarantee for 2026 being the only fully guaranteed amount beyond the initial year.

The contract also features a two-year club option valued at $80 million. This structure provides the Raiders with financial flexibility while demonstrating a significant commitment to Cousins.

Kubiak & Cousins Reunion

The reunion between Cousins and Coach Kubiak is a key aspect of the deal. Kubiak previously served as Cousins’ quarterback coach and offensive coordinator for three seasons during their time with the Minnesota Vikings.

Past Success with Kubiak

During their time in Minnesota, Cousins recorded 12,089 passing yards, 94 touchdowns, and a 67.6% completion rate under Kubiak’s guidance. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2021, throwing for 4,221 yards and 33 touchdowns.

Rookie Quarterback Development

Coach Kubiak emphasized the importance of developing rookie quarterbacks, stating, “Ideally, you don't want him to start day one. You’d love him to be able to learn behind somebody. That's in a perfect world.”

Cousins himself has previously spoken about the benefits of a learning period for young quarterbacks, highlighting the need for continuity. He stated on the 'This is Football' podcast, “The turnover as both coaches and teammates makes it really hard…That position requires continuity that you just don't have anymore.”

Financial Breakdown

The Atlanta Falcons will contribute $8.7 million to Cousins’ salary in 2026, with the Raiders adding $1.3 million. The Raiders have also committed to a $10 million roster bonus, fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2027 league year.

Cousins' Career & Recent Performance

A fourth-round pick in 2012, Cousins has amassed 44,700 passing yards, 298 touchdowns, and 131 interceptions over 14 NFL seasons. He led the Falcons to a 6-3 start in 2024 before an injury, and finished the season with 1,721 passing yards and 10 touchdowns.
