Disney+'s forthcoming drama, Gold Land, has released new promotional stills featuring Kim Sung Cheol in his role as Woo Gi.

Synopsis of "Gold Land"

Gold Land centers around Hee Joo (Park Bo Young), an airport security officer who unexpectedly finds herself in possession of gold bars linked to a criminal smuggling operation. The series will depict how those around her succumb to greed and betrayal as she navigates a dangerous situation, battling both external threats and her own temptation to keep the gold.

Kim Sung Cheol's Character: Woo Gi

Kim Sung Cheol portrays Woo Gi, an employee at the loan company Yes Money. He is described as a sharp and quick-witted individual who is the first to discover Hee Joo’s secret.

A Character of Shifting Alliances

While initially appearing cooperative, Woo Gi is a character prone to betrayal, always seeking opportunities to advance his own interests. He presents a friendly demeanor, fostering a seemingly familial relationship with Hee Joo, but can quickly transform into an accomplice, making his true motives unclear.

Kim Sung Cheol discussed his approach to the role, stating, “I tried not to reveal too much of his inner thoughts to preserve the dramatic mystery. I tried to portray his gaze, words, and actions toward Kim Hee Joo as unpredictable. Above all, I wanted him to seem like a carefree person who can still deliver a punch.”

Director's Perspective on Casting

Director Kim Seong Hoon explained his decision to cast Kim Sung Cheol, saying, “Woo Gi is a character who shapes his own desires between the chance of gold and the presence of Kim Hee Joo. I thought Kim Sung Cheol’s mix of handsomeness and ruggedness suited Woo Gi. I believed he is an actor who could seem bright and lighthearted on the surface but carry an undercurrent of danger.”

The director further praised Kim Sung Cheol’s preparation, adding, “He is an actor who comes extremely well-prepared for his roles. By deeply studying the character and preparing a range of expressions, Kim Sung Cheol was able to fully showcase his own charmingly rogue-like appeal.”
