Reality television personalities Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra Duggar, are facing serious legal challenges following their arrests in Arkansas on Friday, March 20.
Joint Legal Troubles and Separate Counsel
Joseph Duggar, 31, was initially arrested on allegations involving molestation of a 9-year-old girl. He faces charges including lewd and lascivious behavior toward a victim younger than 12, and toward a victim aged 18 or older.
Kendra Duggar, 27, was also arrested and subsequently released from the Washington County Detention Facility on Friday. Both individuals have been charged with four misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment and four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The Bombshell Prison Call Revelation
Approximately 90 minutes after her release, Kendra placed a call to her husband, who was still in custody. This call, obtained by People, contained a significant revelation regarding their defense strategy.
Joseph inquired if attorney Travis Story had contacted Kendra, assuming the couple would share legal representation. Kendra responded, stating, “I’ve been talking to Travis,” and confirmed, “I’ve got him as my attorney now.”
Diverging Legal Paths
Joseph seemed surprised by this development, replying that he was unsure who they had settled on for representation but acknowledged the lawyer was reputable. Kendra quickly clarified the scope of her new arrangement, stating, “Well it’s not for you, it’s only for me.”
She further explained that she was advised to secure counsel specifically for the charges related to “the case we’ve got going with the kids and stuff.” Notably, Travis Story previously represented Josh Duggar during his 2021 child pornography trial.
Upcoming Court Dates and Current Status
Video footage captured Kendra undergoing a pat-down procedure at the jail before her release. She is scheduled to appear in court alongside Joseph on April 29.
Joseph Duggar is scheduled for his initial court appearance on Tuesday. If anyone needs assistance related to the issues raised in this story, the Sexual Assault Hotline is available at 1-800-330-0226.
