Joe Manganiello Alleges Shaman Said Illness Was Voodoo Curse in New Memoir Bloodlines Joe Manganiello claims in his memoir Bloodlines that a Cuba-based shaman said his illness was caused by a voodoo curse from Sofia Vergara's ex Nick Loeb, amid detailing the health crisis that ended their marriage. Joe Manganiello believes his mysterious illness may have been caused by witchcraft. In his new memoir Bloodlines, released Oct. 13, the 49-year-old actor writes that a Cuba-based shaman told him his sickness came from a voodoo curse. The shaman claimed the curse was cast by a former partner of his ex-wife Sofia Vergara, 54. According to Page Six, Manganiello wrote that the shaman called him and said he was sick and that something was wrong with his intestines. Manganiello said the shaman's claim shocked him because his illness had not been reported at the time. Many of his close family members did not even know he was ill.Manganiello Suspects Voodoo CurseHe wrote that he gave Vergara a look of fear, anger, and disbelief. The shaman allegedly said someone who bore Vergara ill will had targeted him. Manganiello theorized the curse may have come from Vergara's former partner Nick Loeb. Loeb had a long court battle with Vergara over two fertilized embryos created during their relationship.Manganiello described years of severe health problems. He lost 60 pounds and had numerous colonoscopies and multiple surgeries. In 2016, he had emergency removal of his large intestine and temporarily relied on an ostomy bag. He credits Vergara for making a brutal but life-saving decision while he was under anesthesia. But over time, he writes, she began to see him more as a patient than a partner. Their marriage became devoid of emotionality, and they slept in different rooms. Manganiello also pushed back against Vergara's claim that they split because he wanted children.Manganiello Details Health BattleHe writes that Vergara agreed to have a baby early on, but IVF attempts failed and they did not consider an egg donor because he was sick and did not want to leave her with a baby who was not biologically hers. Years later, after feeling better, he told Vergara he still wanted to be a dad and said everything was back on the table. He alleges she looked at him expressionless, rolled her eyes, laughed, and walked out of the room. He calls the marriage over and says he has not spoken to her since he moved out. Manganiello writes that his illness changed everything. He knew Vergara loved him and would have given anything to make it go away, but she could not.Vergara Responds To ClaimsThey came out of it as different people. A representative for Manganiello told the Daily Mail that many people suffer from autoimmune disease and search for answers. The goal of the book is to let people know they are not alone, told by someone who privately battled a brutal, excruciatingly painful autoimmune disease for seven years that almost killed him multiple times. The disease broke his entire life and affected everyone in it, the statement said. The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Vergara for comment but has not yet received a response. Manganiello also recalled gasping with excitement when he learned he was wanted for a villain role in a Batman movie directed by Ben Affleck in 2017. He says Vergara freaked out, assuming something was wrong, because she was preparing for him to die and was deeply traumatized by fear of his impending death.Vergara Posts Narcissism ChartAfter the book's release, Vergara shared a cryptic post on her Instagram Story. She reposted a chart comparing qualities of a good man to a narcissistic man. A source told Page Six that the post was not about her ex-husband, saying she is happily in love and it was not a targeted message.
