New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson recently had a memorable face-to-face encounter with lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart, stemming from an unfortunate courtside incident during the 2025 NBA playoffs.

The meeting took place during an episode of Brunson’s “Roommates Show,” co-hosted by his teammate Josh Hart. The conversation revolved around the moment Brunson accidentally broke Stewart’s toe during Game 1 of the Knicks’ overtime loss to the Pacers at Madison Square Garden last spring.

The Courtside Collision

The incident occurred during the intense Eastern Conference Finals matchup, which the Knicks ultimately lost 138-135 in overtime. Brunson collided with Stewart, who was seated courtside, resulting in a fractured toe for the 84-year-old mogul.

Brunson, 29, had previously apologized for the accident and sent a basketball to Stewart’s grandson as a gesture of goodwill. However, Stewart recounted the swift nature of the event on the show.

Stewart’s Account of the Injury

Stewart recalled telling Brunson, “It’s OK,” immediately after the collision, even though he was unaware of the severity of her injury at the time. “You jumped up really fast, and I remember saying to you, ‘It’s OK,’ you had no idea that you had hurt me,” Stewart stated.

Following the game, Stewart sought medical attention at the Hospital for Special Surgery on the Upper East Side. There, the medical staff humorously coined the specific injury after the two figures involved.

The 'Stewart-Brunson Fracture'

“They’ve named it the Stewart-Brunson fracture,” Stewart revealed on the show. She further mentioned that she possessed an X-ray of the injury and planned to share a picture with Brunson.

When Hart, 31, asked Brunson how he felt hearing the details of Stewart’s experience, the Knicks star admitted, “I don’t feel too great,” which prompted laughter from the show’s guest.

A Lesson in Footwear

Stewart used the opportunity to offer a clear warning about courtside attire during high-stakes games. She attributed the injury partly to her choice of footwear that day.

“See those open-toe shoes? Never, ever wear open-toe shoes to a game like that when you’re sitting on the floor,” Stewart advised. She added that she is now restricted to wearing open-toed styles because they are the only kind of shoes she can comfortably wear.

As the Knicks prepare for their return to the postseason, Stewart may have another opportunity to attend a game, presumably with more protective footwear this time around.
