Abduction in Central Baghdad

Iraqi security officials have confirmed that a female U.S. citizen working as a journalist was kidnapped in central Baghdad. The incident occurred on Saadoun Street, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.

Two Iraqi security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the kidnappers utilized two vehicles during the abduction. An alert was quickly circulated to all security checkpoints across the city.

High-Speed Pursuit and Investigation

Following the report of the kidnapping, security forces tracked the suspects as they fled southwest toward Babil province. Near the town of Al-Haswa, one of the kidnappers' vehicles crashed during the pursuit.

According to the Iraqi interior ministry, the journalist was transferred to a second vehicle that managed to escape the scene. Authorities successfully apprehended one suspect and seized the overturned vehicle.

This incident follows the 2023 disappearance of a Princeton graduate student in Baghdad, who was later released in September 2025. That student, who held Israeli and Russian citizenship, reported being held by the Iran-allied militia Kataib Hezbollah.
