This display comes as millions of Iranians grapple with economic hardship, political oppression, and the repercussions of regional conflicts. Sobhani’s actions are seen as a stark contrast to the realities faced by the majority of the Iranian population.

Private Jet and Luxury Items

The 38-year-old influencer, and son of former Iranian ambassador to Venezuela, Ahmad Sobhani, posted a video on Instagram featuring a private jet trip with his girlfriend, Spanish model Laura Neimas. The footage highlighted luxury items, including a £2,690 Louis Vuitton bag and a £25,000 Hermes Birkin bag carried by Neimas.

The video also showed Sobhani and Neimas enjoying a lavish Persian meal mid-flight and announcing plans for a trip to Ibiza in 2026. He even offered followers a chance to join the adventure.

Social and Political Context

This blatant display of wealth is particularly jarring given the severe economic challenges faced by ordinary Iranians, many of whom struggle to afford basic necessities. Over 3,000 lives have been lost in Iran since the conflict began in February.

Sobhani is part of a group known as the ‘aghazadeh’ – the privileged children of senior regime figures who benefit from political power, corruption, and sanctions evasion. These individuals continue to live lavishly both within Iran and abroad.

Neimas’s social media presence mirrors Sobhani’s, filled with images of designer fashion, luxury travel, and public displays of affection. The couple went public with their relationship in May 2024, after beginning to date in December 2023.

Sobhani’s online persona, built on showcasing superyachts, luxury cars, and alcohol-fueled parties, has provoked significant anger and resentment.
