The Uncertain Future of Anthony Richardson
The Indianapolis Colts' search for a trade partner for quarterback Anthony Richardson has yielded little success. Since the departure of Andrew Luck, the franchise has struggled to find stability at the position, leading them to select Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
After three seasons, the 23-year-old's tenure in Indianapolis has become increasingly complicated. Following a loss of the starting role to Daniel Jones last summer, rumors regarding a potential departure began to circulate. During last month's NFL Combine, it was revealed that the Colts and Richardson had mutually agreed to explore trade options.
Lack of Market Interest
Despite more than 30 days of active searching, there has been no significant interest from other NFL teams. According to reports from Adam Schefter, no organization is currently willing to offer valuable draft capital for the former Florida standout.
Schefter noted that while the Green Bay Packers showed mild interest, no aggressive pursuit materialized. The lack of demand is largely attributed to Richardson's injury history and his limited track record of proven success in the league.
Injury Setbacks and Contract Status
Richardson's 2025 season was hampered by a freak orbital fracture suffered during pre-game warmups in October, which sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Prior to the injury, he appeared in only two games during garbage time, recording a single nine-yard completion to himself.
Richardson enters the final year of his rookie contract, with the Colts expected to decline his fifth-year option next month. The team may now be forced to retain him for the 2026 season, especially given the health uncertainty surrounding current starter Daniel Jones. If Jones faces setbacks in his rehabilitation, the team may have to rely on either Richardson or Riley Leonard as their starter when the season begins.
