ICE Impersonator Attacked in Honolulu: DHS Confirms No Affiliation
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stated that a man recently filmed being attacked while wearing clothing resembling a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) uniform is not affiliated with the agency.
Viral Video Sparks Outrage
A video circulated widely on social media over the weekend showed a man wearing a tactical vest with the word ‘ICE’ being punched and kicked on a street in Honolulu’s Waikiki neighborhood on Saturday night. The incident quickly drew attention amid growing concerns about assaults on ICE agents and discussions about officer safety.
Details of the Assault
The video depicts the man confronting a small group who initially throw liquid at him. He is then grabbed by three individuals, pulled to the ground, and subjected to repeated punches and kicks. The man appears to lose consciousness during the assault, with one individual continuing to strike his face while others restrain him. He eventually gets up and stumbles away, visibly injured with a bloody nose.
DHS Response and Investigation
A DHS spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that “this person is NOT an ICE agent and is not connected to DHS in any way.” The spokesperson emphasized that anyone impersonating a federal immigration agent will face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
The spokesperson further stated that impersonating a federal immigration officer “endangers public safety and erodes trust in law enforcement.”
Arrest and Charges
The Honolulu Police Department has confirmed that a 15-year-old male is being charged with attempted assault in connection with the incident. Initially arrested for second-degree assault, the charges were later reduced to attempted assault. The incident occurred at approximately 8:12 p.m. on Saturday, with the victim listed as 52 years old in the police report.
Authorities have not released the identities of either the suspect or the victim, citing an active and ongoing investigation.
Connection to Protests
The attack took place on the same day as a ‘No Dictators’ protest in downtown Honolulu, opposing the Trump administration. This protest was part of a series of ‘No Kings’ demonstrations held across the United States.
Organizers in Honolulu changed the protest’s name to ‘No Dictators’ “out of respect for Hawaiʻi’s history of aliʻi,” according to local news outlet Big Island Now.
Rising Assaults on ICE Officers
While the individual in this case was not an ICE agent, DHS has reported a significant increase in assaults against its officers. Earlier this year, the agency reported a 1,300 percent increase in assaults on ICE officers, a 3,200 percent increase in vehicular attacks, and an 8,000 percent increase in death threats.
A separate incident during a ‘No Kings’ protest in Los Angeles involved a protester spray-painting a federal building with the message, “Kill your local ICE agent,” alongside two target symbols.
