UDOT Announces Major Ramp Closures
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is alerting motorists to substantial ramp closures impacting travel on I-80 and I-215, beginning next week. These closures are expected to cause delays, particularly for those traveling during spring break.
I-215 West Improved Project Expansion
UDOT is expanding the scope of the I-215 West Improved project to include the replacement and repair of 18 bridge decks and an additional 12 bridges. This expansion necessitates extended ramp closures at the I-80 and I-215 interchange. Crews will implement a staggered closure schedule to minimize disruption.
Closure Details and Timeline
Every ramp within the I-80 and I-215 interchange will be closed at different times. The first phase of closures begins on Monday, April 6, at 6:00 a.m. This will affect ramps from Redwood Road to westbound I-80, southbound I-215, and northbound I-215. These closures are anticipated to last approximately 30 days.
Upcoming Closures in Early May
In early May, additional closures will take effect. These include the ramps from southbound I-215 to westbound I-80 (towards the airport) and the eastbound I-80 to southbound I-215 ramps (towards Tooele). These closures are also expected to last around one month.
Long-Term Construction Schedule
The overall construction project is scheduled to continue through 2027. UDOT advises drivers to plan for alternate routes during the closure periods.
