Utah Representative Blake Moore secured significant backing for his reelection campaign on Monday, receiving endorsements from two prominent figures in the U.S. House Republican leadership. This support arrives as the three-term congressman faces a primary contest against a notable state lawmaker.
Top Leadership Throws Weight Behind Moore
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Rep. Jim Jordan, founder of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, issued a joint press release announcing their support for Moore. The endorsements provide a substantial boost to Moore's campaign efforts in Utah's 2nd District.
Speaker Johnson Praises Moore's Leadership
Speaker Johnson characterized Moore as a vital asset to House Republican leadership and an "America First Patriot." Johnson highlighted Moore's utilization of his committee assignments to advance core Republican objectives.
Johnson stated, "Blake has helped deliver working families tax cuts, a secure border, American energy dominance, and peace through strength, while also defending our troops, veterans, and principles that have made America the greatest nation on Earth." He concluded by expressing his eagerness to collaborate with Moore to "defend and grow our majority and CONTINUE our American comeback!"
Representative Moore currently holds the position of vice chair of the House GOP conference, marking the fifth-highest leadership role available to the party in the lower chamber. He is the first Utahn ever elected to such a high-ranking leadership post.
Freedom Caucus Founder Endorses Conservative Record
Rep. Jim Jordan also commended Moore's legislative performance since his initial election in 2020. Jordan specifically referenced Moore's contributions to advancing former President Donald Trump's tax initiatives through the Big Beautiful Bill Act last summer and his work establishing the Trump Accounts.
In his statement, Jordan called Moore a "close friend and a proven fighter for conservative values." He added, "Together, we have worked tirelessly to rein in big government, root out fraud and waste, end DEI and the weaponization of the federal government, defend free speech, and advance President Trump's agenda."
Primary Challenge Context
These high-profile endorsements arrive at a critical juncture for Moore. He is currently being challenged in the primary election by state Representative Karianne Lisonbee.
Lisonbee, who has held leadership roles within the Utah House of Representatives, launched her bid earlier this month. Her campaign has focused criticism on Moore's past involvement with Better Boundaries, an organization advocating for an independent redistricting commission in Utah. Moore was among the initial signatories supporting the effort to place Proposition 4 on the ballot.
