Henry Cavill's 'Highlander' Reboot Promises a New Look for a Classic Character

Four decades after the release of the original Highlander, the franchise is set for a reboot with significant changes to established characters. The upcoming film, led by Henry Cavill, is currently in production and promises a fresh take on the immortal story.

Brenda Wyatt: A Different Beginning

Siobhan Cullen, cast as Brenda Wyatt – a role originally portrayed by Roxanne Hart in the 1986 film – revealed that her interpretation of the character will be “totally different.” Cullen explained to Deadline that this stems from the reboot beginning at a different point in Brenda’s life.

Early Involvement in the Immortal World

Unlike the original, Cullen’s Brenda Wyatt is “getting into trouble” before she meets Connor MacLeod (Cavill). She will be “swept up into the world of immortals” and serves as “the eyes of the audience,” experiencing the discovery of this hidden world alongside viewers. Her investigation will “upend her whole understanding of humanity and time and what’s possible.”

Behind the Scenes: Action and Detail

Cullen assured fans that the reboot is “definitely one for the fans” and highlighted the intensity of the fight sequences, describing them as “just insane.” She praised director Chad Stahelski (John Wick) for his mastery of action filmmaking, noting a “whole other script that’s happening that is parallel to our dialogue.”

A Keen Student of the Script

The actress also commended the script, penned by Kerry Williamson and Mike Finch, for its depth and attention to character detail. Cullen described herself as a “keen student” while working on the project, appreciating the nuances within the story.

Star-Studded Cast and Crew

The Highlander reboot boasts a prominent cast alongside Cavill and Cullen, including Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Marisa Abela, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Drew McIntyre, Jeon Jong-seo, Nassim Lyes, and Kevin McKidd. Cinematography is being handled by Dan Laustsen.
