A Helotes resident received a substantial prison sentence on Monday for his role in a fatal automobile accident that occurred in Kendall County in January 2025. The sentencing was announced by the Kendall County District Attorney’s Office.
Guilty Plea in Deadly January 2025 Collision
Robert Delmon Gray, aged 57, entered a guilty plea to charges of intoxication manslaughter. This plea addressed the deadly head-on collision he caused on State Highway 46.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The incident took place near Mile Marker 478 on SH 46, an area with a posted speed limit of just 35 miles per hour. An investigation conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety revealed the sequence of events.
Investigators determined that Gray drove his vehicle across the center line, resulting in a direct head-on impact with another car. The crash tragically claimed the lives of two individuals.
Victims Identified
Phillip “Mickey” Pena, 68, died instantly upon impact at the scene. Marcia Kay Larochelle, also 68, was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to her severe injuries.
Intoxication Confirmed
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Gray was under the influence at the time of the collision. Toxicology reports indicated intoxication by methamphetamine, as well as both delta-9 and delta-8 THC.
Sentencing and Parole Eligibility
The District Attorney’s Office confirmed the final judgment handed down by the court. Gray was sentenced to a total of 30 years in state prison.
Furthermore, the ruling specifies that Gray must serve a minimum of half of his imposed sentence before he can be considered for parole eligibility. This ensures a significant period of incarceration for the fatal offense.
