A New Stage Adaptation of the Hit Series
Just three months after the conclusion of its first season, the popular sports romance drama Heated Rivalry is being adapted for the stage. Following its 2025 debut on Crave and HBO Max, the series became a cultural phenomenon, and now, an unauthorized musical parody is set to premiere at the 6th Floor Theater in New York.
Previews for Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody begin on Tuesday, May 12, with the official opening night scheduled for May 26. The production is slated for an eight-week run following a successful series of eight sold-out concert performances earlier this March.
Star-Studded Casting
The parody features a talented cast of Broadway actors stepping into the roles made famous by Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams. Jay Armstrong Johnson, known for his work in Parade and the Moulin Rouge North American tour, will play Ilya Rozanov. Jimin Moon, who has appeared in Sunset Boulevard and Aladdin, will portray Shane Hollander.
What to Expect from the Production
The musical centers on a group of Broadway actors who mistakenly believe they are auditioning for the second season of the actual television show. According to the official synopsis, the production features a "bop-infused score," cameos from characters like Rose Landry, and intentionally confusing time jumps.
The creative team behind the production includes:
- Director and Producer: Alan Kliffer
- Book and Lyrics: Dylan MarcAurele
- Choreography: Brooke and Tiffany Engen
- Scenic Design: Sully Rossen
- Costume Design: Brendan McCann
- Lighting Design: Devin Cameron
- Sound Design: Germán Martinez
Background on the Heated Rivalry Phenomenon
Heated Rivalry was adapted by Jacob Tierney from the bestselling Game Changers book series by Rachel Reid. The series, which follows the secret relationship between two rival hockey players, has garnered critical acclaim, including a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an Outstanding New TV Series win at the GLAAD Media Awards.
While fans await the stage parody, production continues for the second season of the television series. Showrunner Jacob Tierney is set to return, with filming scheduled for this summer and a potential premiere in spring 2027. Rachel Reid is also set to release the seventh novel in her book series this June.
