Stars Unveil 'Masters of the Universe' Trailer on TODAY Show
TODAY viewers received an exclusive, "master"-ful preview of a major summer blockbuster. The stars of the upcoming live-action movie, Masters of the Universe, personally introduced the official trailer during a taped segment that aired on March 31.
Nicholas Galitzine, Idris Elba, and Camila Mendes participated in the reveal. Galitzine kicked off the introduction, stating, "Hey, PopStart crew, I’m Nicholas Galitzine." Following him, Elba and Mendes also introduced themselves to the TODAY audience.
Meet the Cast and Characters
Galitzine is set to star as the film's protagonist, He-Man, whose Earth identity is Prince Adam of Eternia. Idris Elba portrays Man-At-Arms, also known by his real name, Duncan. Camila Mendes takes on the role of Teela in the epic adventure.
The film boasts a strong supporting cast, including Jared Leto as the primary antagonist, Skeletor. Other notable actors joining the production are Kristen Wiig, Morena Baccarin, Alison Brie, and James Purefoy.
Plot Teases from the New Trailer
The trailer provided glimpses into the film's narrative, highlighting the high stakes of the adventure. Galitzine's character, Adam, was raised on Earth as a means to escape ongoing conflict on his home planet.
A dramatic moment shown in the preview features Mendes' character, Teela, confronting Adam. She tells him, "Everything changed since you left," as he witnesses his home planet devastated. The preview also shows Adam reclaiming his ancestor's Power Sword to transform into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.
The footage culminates with a preview of the epic confrontation between He-Man and the villainous Skeletor. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on June 5.
A Legacy Reimagined
This new live-action adaptation follows the previous attempt to bring He-Man to the big screen. That original film, also titled Masters of the Universe, was released in 1987 and featured Dolph Lundgren, Courteney Cox, and Frank Langella.
