Hal Jordan Returns to Earth in Green Lantern #40, Facing Krona and a Universe-Changing Secret DC Comics announces the return of Hal Jordan in 'Green Lantern #40', where he confronts the villainous Krona and the secret of the Guardians. This homecoming reenergizes the Green Lantern corps, highlighting Jordan's role as a beacon of inspiration for Earth's lantern bearers. DC has announced that Hal Jordan is soon to return, changing Green Lantern lore forever. While Earth has many Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan is first and foremost among them. Hal Jordan's Legacy Among Earth's LanternsThe first human to join the Green Lantern Corps, Jordan has set the standard which Guy Gardner, John Stewart and the rest aspire to. A test pilot by training, Hal Jordan was selected by Abin Sur to replace him as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. The Guardians of the Universe, the bosses of the Green Lantern Corps, were initially skeptical of Hal Jordan, but in time he proved himself as great a Lantern as Tomar Re or Sinestro.Jordan inaugurated a long line of Earth-bound Green Lanterns. In addition to the aforementioned Guy Gardner and John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Jo Mullein all wear the ring, and were all inspired by Hal Jordan in some fashion. Recently, in the pages of Green Lantern's ongoing monthly, Jordan has departed from Earth, leaving Kyle Rayner in charge. This move was greeted with enthusiasm by fans, who had been clamoring for Rayner's return.Meanwhile, both John Stewart and Guy Gardner are busy protecting Earth. Yet Earth is Jordan's home, and he is never away for too long. Now, he is returning in the nick of time. It's A Homecoming For Hal Jordan In Green Lantern #40 Later this month, DC Comics will release Green Lantern #40, written by Jeremy Adams and drawn by Scott Godlewski.A New Green Lantern Homecoming StoryThe opening chapter in the new "First Light" storyline, the book sees Hal Jordan return home. DC's solicitation for Green Lantern #40 reads as follows: THE SECRET OF THE GUARDIANS! Kyle Rayner and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps set off to save Hal Jordan, who is in the fight of his life against Krona and the other Guardians and their attempt to hide a secret that will change the DCU forever! So far, DC has released no additional information on the book, but has revealed Green Lantern #40's variant covers, shared here. Close While fans were grateful for Kyle Rayner to be back in the saddle, it is time for Hal Jordan to return to Earth. His battle with Krona, one of the Corp's deadliest foes, will be one of the biggest of his career.Krona was an Oan scientist whose experiments accidentally created the multiverse, and for this he was exiled into space. He has returned several times to menace Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, often resulting in explosive conflicts. Hal Jordan's Return Can Reenergize The Green Lantern Corps John Stewart, Guy Gardner And The Rest Owe Hal Jordan A Huge Debt Close The number of Green Lanterns active on Earth at any given time has changed throughout the years.Returning Jordan Could Reenergize the CorpsAt some points, there is only one, with a backup in case something goes wrong. At other times, it seems as if all of them are on duty. In some instances, Earth's Lanterns would split their duties: some stayed on the planet while others served in space, an arrangement that came into place once Hal Jordan returned from the dead. Jordan's return was the catalyst for a rebirth of the Green Lantern franchise that continues to this day.And Hal Jordan's impending return to the planet of his birth could reenergize the Green Lantern line once again. While John, Jessica, Guy and the rest are highly skilled Lanterns, Jordan ranks above them all in terms of experience and know-how. Coming back to Earth gives the other Green Lanterns a symbol to rally around. All of Earth's other Lanterns owe Hal Jordan a debt.Jordan inspired the Corps' other human members, and he will again. Krona Is Bad News For Hal Jordan And The Green Lantern Corps As for what universe-shattering secret Krona and the evil Guardians have, it could relate to Krona's experiments, mentioned earlier. Krona is responsible for the structure of the DC Universe, and this "secret" could grow out of that.Perhaps Krona's "secret" is a way to alter the fabric of space-time even more, even rewriting history to make himself its leader and figurehead. Krona is bad news, and the Green Lanterns are going to need to prepare themselves for a big fight. Regardless of what the Guardians and Krona are keeping from Jordan and the other Green Lanterns, Hal's return to Earth is a cause for celebration. As the planet's first Lantern, Hal Jordan occupies a special place in the DC Universe. Hal Jordan's influence on the other Green Lanterns is enormous, and this aspect of his character is ripe for exploration. Hopefully, his return home will give fans these stories and more. Green Lantern #40 is on sale October 28 from DC Comics!
