Gotham FC concluded their recent three-game homestand with another frustrating result: a scoreless draw against the Orlando Pride on Sunday evening. This result extended the team's inability to find the back of the net, finishing the stand with a 0-1-2 record.

Addressing the Offensive Drought

The players acknowledge that the lack of scoring is a significant concern for the squad. Despite this challenge, the team expressed satisfaction with the overall progress being made in other areas of their game.

This offensive inconsistency is not a new phenomenon for Gotham FC. The team experienced similar scoring fluctuations last season but managed to secure the NWSL championship as the eighth seed.

Player Accountability and Unity

Star midfielder Rose Lavelle emphasized the team's commitment to mutual accountability when facing difficulties. She described the group as generally "honest" regarding their performance standards.

Lavelle stated, “It’s frustrating because it feels like it’s kind of the same thing happening. But we hold ourselves accountable. We know it needs to be better, and we do it together.”

Performance Improvements Since Midweek Loss

Gotham FC recently suffered a 2-0 defeat against the expansion side Denver Summit, who earned their first-ever NWSL victory in that midweek matchup. The team felt disjointed during that loss.

However, against Orlando, Gotham believed they showed marked improvement in ball control and decision-making. Possession statistics reflect this shift: the team held 50.3% possession against Denver, which increased to 60.7% against Orlando.

Coaching Perspective on Identity

Head coach Juan Carlos Amorós noted the positive shift in the team's identity on the pitch. He felt the match against Orlando was crucial for rediscovering their style of play.

Amorós commented, “I think we were a lot more recognizable on and off the ball in terms of who we are. It was an important game for us to find ourselves again.”

Defensive Strength and Player Updates

A major bright spot for The Bats has been their defensive performance. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger earned her third clean sheet in the last four matches, registering four saves against Orlando.

Defender Tierna Davidson highlighted the successful focus areas for the team's structure. “We’ve seen a lot of improvements in our control of the ball, decision making, and defensive structure. Those were things we wanted to improve,” Davidson said.

The team is still awaiting the return of Jaedyn Shaw. Coach Amorós confirmed that Shaw is “doing well” and is actively working with the medical team to achieve full readiness.

Looking Ahead to Kansas City

Gotham FC’s next fixture involves a road trip to face KC Current. This match carries significance as it marks a reunion since the two clubs met in the opening round of the previous playoffs.

The last time Gotham played at CPKC Stadium, they achieved a major upset by defeating the top-seeded Current en route to ultimately winning the championship.
