Since its release in 2020, Genshin Impact, developed by HoYoverse, has become a global phenomenon, revitalizing the gacha RPG genre. The free-to-play, anime-style open-world game features in-game monetization through a gacha system for characters and weapons.
End of Support for PlayStation 4
HoYoverse announced in 2025 that support for Genshin Impact on the PlayStation 4 would end in 2026. This decision is now imminent, with support officially ceasing on April 8, 2026. The discontinuation is attributed to hardware limitations and the increasing application size of the game.
Timeline of Changes
- 2025: Genshin Impact was delisted from the PlayStation Store.
- February 2026: In-game purchases were disabled on the PS4 version.
- April 8, 2026: The game will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4.
As stated in an August 2025 announcement, “Thank you for your continued support and love for Genshin Impact on PS4! Due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size, we will be discontinuing support and updates for Genshin Impact on PS4 in future versions.”
Continued Availability on Other Platforms
Players can still enjoy Genshin Impact on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, mobile devices, and PC. Importantly, player progression is linked to individual accounts, allowing players to seamlessly continue their adventures on other supported platforms.
This account-based progression system is also utilized in other HoYoverse titles, such as Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero.
While the end of PS4 support marks the end of an era for some players, the game’s overall player base is unlikely to be significantly impacted. It serves as a reminder of the PlayStation 4’s status as a last-generation console.
