Gas Station Attendant Foils Alleged Kidnapping, Teen Girl Rescued A brave gas station attendant in Detroit, Abdulrahman Abohatem, is credited with saving a 16-year-old girl from an alleged kidnapping by intervening when he noticed suspicious behavior and the girl's silent plea for help. The girl was located using her phone by friends from school, leading to the suspect's apprehension. The suspect has a history of rape charges. A quick-thinking gas station attendant in Detroit is being hailed as a hero after intervening to prevent an alleged kidnapping. Abdulrahman Abohatem was working at a local gas station on Monday morning when he noticed a man enter with a teenage girl, and a sense of unease washed over him. Abohatem recounted how he observed the interaction, noting that something felt amiss between the two individuals. When the man instructed the girl to purchase cigarettes, Abohatem felt compelled to act. He stepped in, saying, Stop. There's something wrong. The girl, in a silent plea for help, mouthed the words 'Help' to him, confirming Abohatem's suspicions. Authorities later confirmed that the 16-year-old girl had allegedly been abducted from a bus stop approximately one block from her residence earlier that morning. Disturbing audio from a 911 call related to the incident revealed the panic of a witness who saw the abduction unfold. 'I'm walking to my bus stop, and I just see somebody snatching this girl,' the unidentified caller stated. According to police, the suspect brought the girl to the gas station about 30 minutes after the alleged abduction and ordered her to buy him cigarettes. Surveillance footage from the gas station captures the critical moment where Abohatem bravely positioned himself between the girl and her alleged captor, effectively separating them. The situation escalated as police arrived on the scene, and Abohatem and the suspect moved outside. Meanwhile, a coordinated effort by the girl's friends at Frontier International Academy played a crucial role in her rescue. Mohammed Alsanai, the principal of the academy, confirmed that friends utilized social media applications to track the girl's location. Alsanai described the tense moments when the friends discovered her whereabouts. 'One of her friends opened the location through one of the social media apps. I said, 'Oh, I could see her location right now,'' Alsanai recounted. 'As we show the police the location, informed the dispatch, and as she walked in and said she had the location, like the whole room froze and we all look at each other like, 'Here we go.'' This swift action allowed investigators to pinpoint the girl's location and direct law enforcement to the gas station. The suspect was apprehended at the scene. Police have stated that the alleged kidnapping was a random act, with no prior connection between the suspect and the victim. The Hamtramck Police Department announced that the suspect remains in custody, with charges pending from the Wayne County Prosecutors Office. They anticipate releasing more details soon. During a press conference, Hamtramck Mayor Adam Alharbi revealed that the suspect has a history of rape charges, vowing to ensure justice is served. The young girl is reportedly safe at home, recovering from the traumatic experience and expressing gratitude for the support of her friends and community who rallied to her aid
