France Returns to World Ranking Summit

France is once again the top-ranked team in the FIFA Men's World Ranking, a position they last held in September 2018. As of Wednesday, April 1st, Les Bleus climbed two spots to reclaim the No. 1 ranking, led by star player Kylian Mbappé.

Spain and Argentina Slip

The change at the top saw Spain and the reigning World Cup champions, Argentina, each drop one position in the rankings. Both teams remain firmly within the top three, despite the shift.

World Cup Bound: Top 10 Teams Confirmed

Notably, all ten teams currently in the top 10 of the FIFA rankings have qualified for the upcoming World Cup. This summer’s tournament, beginning June 11th, will be the largest ever, featuring 48 teams across three host nations: America, Canada, and Mexico.

Italy Misses Out

Despite their strong footballing tradition, Italy is the highest-ranked team that will not participate in the World Cup. They were eliminated in the playoffs by Bosnia & Herzegovina, preventing their participation in the expanded tournament.

North American Rankings

The United States fell one spot to No. 16 following a recent international friendly loss to Portugal. Mexico currently ranks at No. 15, while Canada holds the No. 30 position.

Ranking Movers

No countries moved into or out of the top 10. Vietnam experienced the largest climb, rising from No. 108 to No. 99. Conversely, Malaysia saw the steepest decline, dropping from No. 121 to No. 138.

Looking Ahead

The next FIFA World Ranking update is scheduled for June 10th. The following day, June 11th, marks the start of the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, which will be exclusively broadcast on FOX in the United States.
