Baylor Secures Major Commitment for 2027 Football Class
The Baylor Bears have successfully added a significant asset to their 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of quarterback Babin. This addition bolsters the future prospects of the program on the offensive side of the ball.
Babin, hailing from Woodville, Texas, stands at 6'2" and weighs 185 pounds. According to the Composite rankings, he is recognized as the nation's No. 399 prospect and the 25th best quarterback in the 2027 cycle.
Recruitment Journey and Key Decision Factors
The quarterback initially pledged his commitment to Vanderbilt in September of the previous year. However, Babin chose to de-commit on February 18, reopening his recruitment process.
Following his decision to de-commit, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Houston immediately re-established contact with the four-star talent. Initially, Oklahoma State appeared to be the leading contender for his commitment.
The Role of Baylor's Coaching Staff
Baylor's assistant quarterbacks coach, Rhett Holcomb, played a crucial role in securing the commitment. Holcomb remained diligent in his pursuit, successfully bringing Babin to Waco for a visit.
Babin explained the connection, stating, "Baylor felt like home to me with a lot of familiar faces." He further elaborated on the coaching influence: “Coach Rhett has been texting me and sent me a letter about why he wanted to be back in the mix. Those are some of the original guys that offered me in the beginning and great places to land, great places to be. I love those coaches and have a great relationship with them.”
Recent Visits and On-Field Production
The quarterback recently concluded an unofficial visit to Waco this past weekend, which proved highly successful. An official visit is also scheduled for June 19.
During his junior season, Babin demonstrated strong production through the air and on the ground. He threw for 3,063 yards and 40 touchdowns. Additionally, he contributed 562 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
Overview of Baylor's 2027 Class
With Babin's commitment, Baylor now holds five commitments for the 2027 class. The current headliner is athlete Karece Hoyt, projected as a wide receiver, who holds a national ranking of No. 329.
The class also features other highly-ranked prospects:
- Four-star cornerback Davontrae Kirkland, ranked No. 472 nationally.
- Three-star defensive lineman Jalen Price, ranked No. 888.
- Three-star linebacker Bryson Brown, also ranked No. 888.
While the foundation for the 2027 class is strong, the article notes that recruiting success is often tied to on-field performance. Baylor will need to secure wins this upcoming season to maintain its recruiting momentum.
