To date, more than 257,000 students have submitted applications seeking vouchers valued at $10,000 per child. This program represents a significant shift in how tailored learning options are accessed across the state.

Selection Process and Funding Cap

According to the state comptroller’s office, it is anticipated that fewer than half of the total applicants will ultimately be accepted into the program this year. Selections will be determined by a need- and income-based lottery system.

The highest priority for acceptance is reserved for students who have disabilities and those from lower-income families. For the current year, the program's total expenditure is strictly capped at $1 billion.

Local private schools are expressing enthusiasm about the potential influx of new students. Sister Bernadette Mota of St. John Bosco School noted the positive atmosphere surrounding the program.

Sister Mota stated, “There’s a lot of excitement in the air right now, because this is giving us a great opportunity to have young people who otherwise couldn’t afford a Catholic education to receive that gift.”
