Erik Cantu is scheduled to appear in court for a second consecutive day concerning a motion to revoke his probation. Cantu has faced six arrests since he was shot by a police officer in 2022.
Probation Hearing Continues After Monday's Testimony
Judge Stephanie Boyd of Bexar County’s 187th Criminal District Court did not reach a decision on revoking Cantu’s probation during Monday's proceedings. Prosecutors presented several hours of evidence, including testimony from Cantu’s ex-girlfriend, Emily Proulx.
Evidence Presented in Court
Testimony and GPS evidence indicated that Cantu was present at Proulx’s apartment while under house arrest. This appearance occurred despite his monitoring status.
The current hearing was triggered by a recent burglary arrest. This arrest violated the terms of Cantu’s existing probation, which stemmed from two separate evading arrest cases where he was under GPS monitoring.
Background of Cantu's Legal Troubles
Cantu’s arrest in early December marked his most recent legal issue since the 2022 incident. He was shot multiple times by former San Antonio police officer James Brennand in a McDonald’s parking lot.
Following that arrest, state prosecutors initiated proceedings to revoke Cantu’s existing probation terms. James Brennand, who faces charges of aggravated assault by a public servant, is scheduled for his next court appearance in mid-April.
Upcoming Court Details
KSAT planned to provide a livestream of the hearing on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Viewers were advised to check back later if a livestream was unavailable, as delays were possible.
