Dylan Dreyer and Ashley Graham Connect on Motherhood
TODAY meteorologist Dylan Dreyer and model Ashley Graham recently bonded over the unique challenges – and joys – of raising sons. The conversation took place on Dreyer’s new podcast, “The Parent Chat,” and quickly moved beyond surface-level topics to the often-messy realities of motherhood.
The Shared Skill of Selective Hearing
Both Dreyer and Graham, mothers of three boys each, discovered a surprising commonality: the ability to selectively tune out the constant noise and chaos. They discussed the responsibility of raising kind and respectful young men, alongside the practicalities of managing energetic households.
Tuning Out the Chaos
Dylan shared an anecdote about a friend visiting while her sons, Calvin, 9, Oliver, 6, and Rusty, 3, were running around the house at full speed. “As long as nobody’s crying, I’m fine. I don’t mind the chaos,” Dreyer explained to Graham. “It really doesn’t bother me when they’re running or screaming. I can actually tune it out.” Her friend, however, was overwhelmed, asking if the house was always like that.
Graham, 38, immediately related, stating she’s reached the same point. “I’m like you,” she told Dreyer. “I don’t hear it.” She added that she’s actually more concerned when things are quiet, fearing her sons – Isaac, 6, and twins Malachi and Roman, 4 – are getting into trouble.
Navigating Bumps and Bruises
The conversation also touched on handling the inevitable injuries that come with active children. Dreyer jokingly admitted to sometimes warning her boys that someone is going to get hurt – and not caring when it happens.
Encouraging Healthy Outlets
Graham’s approach involves encouraging her sons to release their energy through boxing, complete with gloves. “The only thing I say to them is no head shots,” she said. “If you do a head shot, you are gonna go into a timeout.”
