A violent incident unfolded on Chicago's Near North Side, close to the popular Magnificent Mile shopping district, involving a drive-by shooting and a resulting traffic collision. Chicago police confirmed that a woman walking in the vicinity sustained injuries during the event.

Details of the Near North Side Incident

The confrontation began when a red sedan was approached by an unidentified white sedan. An occupant inside the white sedan opened fire on the occupants of the red vehicle.

Victims Injured in the Shooting and Crash

A 25-year-old woman, who was walking outdoors at the time, was struck by gunfire. She suffered a wound to her thigh and was subsequently taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Authorities reported she was listed in fair condition.

Following the shooting, the driver of the red sedan lost control of the vehicle. The car subsequently struck a parked vehicle, which in turn was pushed into a second parked car. This secondary impact injured a 52-year-old man.

The injured male driver was also transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Like the pedestrian, he was also reported to be in fair condition upon arrival.

Eyewitness Reactions to the Gunfire

Residents near the scene described hearing the sudden outbreak of violence. Joshua Leveh, a local resident, recounted hearing gunshots and then seeing the ambulance arrive shortly thereafter.

Another resident, McDougald, initially mistook the sounds for something less serious. "I heard 'boom, boom, boom', then thinking suddenly gunfire. My roommate said it's probably a car backfiring," he stated.

Ande Borkowski expressed shock, noting the proximity of the danger to daily life. "I had not too much earlier been walking down the same street because it was so such a nice night," Borkowski commented. "It's a little unsettling."
