Dodgers Launch High-Priced Shohei Ohtani Collector's Cup

The Los Angeles Dodgers are offering a limited-edition Shohei Ohtani souvenir cup at stadium concession stands this season for $68.99. While the initial price point is high, the cup comes with a significant perk: free fountain drink refills throughout the entire season.

For fans planning frequent visits to Chavez Ravine, this offer could translate into substantial savings. With individual fountain drinks priced around $11.99 this season, the cup effectively pays for itself after approximately six refills.

Initial Pricing Confusion and Confirmation

The cup experienced an immediate price fluctuation after its debut. On Opening Day, the same Ohtani-themed item was reportedly sold for $74.99.

Social media images later surfaced showing concession stand signage indicating that free refills were initially limited to the day of purchase only. Two days after the launch, the price dropped by six dollars to the current $68.99 mark.

The Dodgers confirmed the price reduction to The Times but chose not to provide further commentary on the matter.

Clarification on Season-Long Refill Policy

Further clarity on the refill benefit was provided via an Instagram post from Dodger Stadium Hospitality on Saturday. The post confirmed that the cups are eligible for free fountain soda refills at every Dodgers home game through the 2026 season.

The collector's cup design is highly detailed, resembling Ohtani's jersey, complete with his name and number 17 featuring textured and raised plastic for a realistic look.

Lucrative Secondary Market Emerges

Despite the availability at the stadium, a surprisingly lucrative resale market has developed for these souvenir cups. As of Tuesday morning, several units had already sold on eBay for prices ranging between $199.99 and $290.

Furthermore, at least nine other listings were active, with asking prices ranging from $185 up to $339. This suggests significant demand from dedicated Ohtani fans, potentially including international collectors unable to visit Dodger Stadium.
