New Currency to Address Economic Challenges

Starting Wednesday, Cuba will introduce two new high-denomination banknotes into circulation. The move comes as a response to the country's ongoing struggle with skyrocketing inflation, which has forced citizens to carry large quantities of cash for routine shopping.

Details of the New Banknotes

Cuba’s Central Bank has confirmed the release of 2,000 and 5,000 Cuban peso notes. In terms of current valuation, these new bills are approximately equal to $4 and $10, respectively.

Honoring Women Through Currency

The new banknotes are notable for their design, as they feature imagery honoring women. This initiative aims to provide practical relief to the public by simplifying the physical handling of money during daily transactions.
