Cowboys Targeted in Bold Draft Trade Proposal

With just three weeks remaining until the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, speculation is mounting regarding the Dallas Cowboys’ strategy. The team is looking to improve its roster, particularly a pass rush that ranked 30th in the league last season.

Proposed Trade with Arizona Cardinals

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic suggests the Cowboys should aggressively pursue a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to move up to the No. 3 overall pick. Surprisingly, Feldman’s proposal outlines a trade that wouldn’t require Dallas to surrender both of its first-round picks.

Trade Details

According to Feldman, the Cowboys could acquire the No. 3 pick by sending the Cardinals their No. 12 overall pick and their third-round selection. This would be a significant win for Dallas, allowing them to potentially secure a premier talent without depleting their draft capital.

Targeting Texas Tech Linebacker David Bailey

The primary target with the No. 3 pick, according to Feldman, is Texas Tech linebacker David Bailey. “They would love for [another player] to fall here, but Bailey is another true difference-maker in a draft that isn’t all that deep with them,” Feldman wrote. Bailey recorded 14.5 sacks last season, tied for first in the FBS.

Bailey's Profile

Bailey is described as a 6-foot-4, 251-pound player with impressive athleticism, having run a 4.50 40-yard dash and recorded a 35-inch vertical jump. Feldman believes Bailey is an even better edge rusher than Abdul Carter, who was drafted by the Giants last year.

Adding a Receiving Threat

The proposed trade scenario doesn’t end with just an elite pass rusher. Feldman suggests the Cowboys could also select Washington receiver Denzel Boston with their second-round pick. Boston has recorded 125 receptions for 1,715 yards and 20 touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Potential Impact

This unorthodox approach to the draft would undoubtedly generate significant attention. Such a move would likely be well-received by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The 2026 NFL Draft is scheduled to take place from Thursday, April 23, through Saturday, April 25.
